A practice, not a cure

A calm place to explore how your mind works.

For adults with aphantasia and the imagery-curious. A six-week Journey and an open Practice — small experiments, your pace, no test to pass.

Nothing to prove. No change required. You can pause, skip, or stop at any moment.

There's nothing here to fix.

A lot of the conversation around aphantasia treats it as a thing missing — something to cure or unlock. We don't see it that way.

Your mind isn't a problem to be solved. Picturing something, or not, says nothing about your effort, your creativity, or your worth. AfterImage is simply a space to get to know how your own mind works — and to feel less alone in it.

Whatever you notice here, or don't, you are already whole.

Two ways to use it

A quiet space to explore.

The Journey

A calm, six-week guided arc of short sessions. It starts with Foundations — a gentle warm-up — then opens into pathways you can explore in any order. Each day you choose the depth: a two-minute check-in, an eight-to-ten-minute guided practice, or a fifteen-to-twenty-minute deeper explore.

Practice

An open, come-back-anytime space that never “completes.” A daily door, themed Explorations, small experiments you set yourself, short resets for steadying yourself, and a personal map of what you've noticed over time.

Everything is an experiment and an invitation. You try what feels right, and you leave the rest.

Who it's for

AfterImage is for adults, 18 and over — whether you've identified as aphantasic for years, only just found the word, or are simply curious about how your inner experience works. You don't need a diagnosis, and you don't need to be sure how to name it.

A gentle but important note

If your ability to picture things changed suddenly or recently — especially after a head injury, illness, seizure, surgery, or a change in medication, or alongside other new symptoms like changes in vision, speech, movement, or memory — please see a doctor first.

Not because something is necessarily wrong, but because a recent change like that is worth having a professional look at directly. AfterImage is for gentle, long-term self-exploration, not medical care. It will be here whenever you're ready.

How it feels

Notice, don't perform

No test to pass and nothing to get right. The whole practice is paying attention to what's actually there — including “nothing visual.”

No streaks, ever

Nothing to keep alive, no missed-day guilt, no ranking. Come back when it suits you.

Choose your depth each day

Two minutes or twenty. A lighter day is not a lesser day.

No change is a valid outcome

These are experiments. Some may be useful, some may not — and finding no change is completely normal. Nothing you notice, or don't, reflects how hard you tried.

Honest about what this is

What AfterImage is

  • A calm, self-guided space to explore how your mind works.
  • A way to run small experiments with mental imagery and the everyday skills around it.
  • Practical strategies for memory, planning, communication, creativity, and reading that don't rely on a mental picture.
  • Language for your experience, and the relief of not being treated as deficient.

What AfterImage isn't

  • Not medical care — it's a space for self-exploration. For anything a professional should look at (like a sudden change in your imagery), a doctor is the right place.
  • Not a promise that your imagery will change. There's no established method for that, and we don't claim one.
  • Not a course to “complete,” a performance to score, or a streak to keep.

Explore at your own pace.

When you're ready, your first small step is waiting. There's no rush, and no wrong way to begin.
